About ESP32-CAM WiFi Bluetooth Camera Module with OV2640

The ESP32-CAM WiFi Bluetooth Camera Module with OV2640 is a popular all-in-one IoT camera board designed for wireless image capture in compact embedded projects. It combines the ESP32 wireless MCU platform with a 2 megapixel OV2640 camera sensor, onboard SPI flash, PSRAM, microSD card support and a high-brightness flash LED, making it suitable for camera-based Arduino, ESP-IDF and MicroPython-style development. This module works by capturing image data through the OV2640 camera interface and processing it on the ESP32, which can then transmit images or video streams over 2.4GHz WiFi. Bluetooth and BLE support are also available for short-range communication and provisioning use cases. The board is widely used for browser-viewable WiFi camera servers, remote monitoring nodes, smart doorbell prototypes, robot vision, time-lapse image logging and basic face-recognition demo projects supported by ESP32 camera examples. For power, the board is commonly supplied from a stable 5V source through the 5V pin, while ESP32 I/O operates at 3.3V logic levels. Current demand increases during WiFi transmission and when the onboard flash LED is active, so a reliable power supply is recommended. Programming is done through the UART pins using an external USB-to-TTL serial converter; many ESP32-CAM boards do not include an onboard USB programmer. Key hardware includes the OV2640 camera FPC connector, microSD/TF card slot for local storage, GPIO header pins, UART, SPI, I2C-capable GPIOs, ADC-capable pins and an onboard antenna. Package typically includes 1 x ESP32-CAM board with OV2640 2MP camera module attached. Check pin mapping before using the microSD card because some GPIOs are shared with the SD interface.
