About ESP32-CAM WiFi Camera Module with OV2640
The ESP32-CAM with OV2640 is one of the most popular low-cost wireless camera modules for IoT, robotics and embedded vision applications. It combines an ESP32 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth system-on-chip with a 2MP OV2640 image sensor on a very small development board, making it suitable for battery-powered nodes, smart monitoring devices, DIY surveillance cameras and image capture projects where space and cost matter.
The module works as a standalone minimum system: the ESP32 handles networking, image processing, web server functions and peripheral control, while the OV2640 camera captures still images or video frames through the camera interface. With Arduino IDE, ESP-IDF or ESP32 camera example libraries, users can quickly build a WiFi video streaming server, remote snapshot camera, time-lapse logger or basic face detection / face recognition demo using supported ESP32 software examples. On-board microSD card support allows local photo or data storage, while exposed GPIO pins allow connection to sensors, relays, LEDs, PIR modules and other peripherals.
This ESP32-CAM module supports 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth/BLE, making it useful for connected electronics projects that need wireless control or cloud upload. The board is typically powered from a stable 5V supply through the 5V pin, while the ESP32 itself operates at 3.3V logic levels. For programming, an external USB-to-serial converter is required because the board does not include an onboard USB programmer; GPIO0 must be pulled low during flashing.
In the box, you get the ESP32-CAM development board fitted with an OV2640 2MP camera module. Header pins may be supplied loose or pre-soldered depending on stock batch. Pin notes: use 5V and GND for power, U0R/U0T for serial programming, GPIO0 for boot mode, and avoid overloading GPIO pins when the camera and microSD card are in use.
