The Raspberry Pi Pico RP2040 Microcontroller Board is the official low-cost microcontroller board from Raspberry Pi, designed for makers, students, engineers and product prototypers who need dependable embedded control in a small, easy-to-use format. Unlike a Raspberry Pi single-board computer, the Pico is a microcontroller board: it runs your code directly on the RP2040 chip and is ideal for reading sensors, driving LEDs, controlling motors, generating signals and handling real-time I/O tasks. At its heart is the RP2040, a 32-bit dual-core Arm Cortex-M0+ microcontroller designed by Raspberry Pi in the UK. It runs up to 133 MHz and includes 264 KB of SRAM, while the Pico board adds 2 MB of QSPI flash for program storage. The board exposes 26 multifunction GPIO pins operating at 3.3V, with support for common embedded interfaces including UART, SPI, I2C, PWM, ADC and USB 1.1 device/host functionality. The RP2040’s programmable I/O, or PIO, makes the Pico especially useful for timing-sensitive interfaces and custom protocols that are difficult to implement on basic microcontrollers. Power can be supplied from the micro-USB connector or through the VSYS pin over a wide 1.8V to 5.5V input range, making it suitable for USB-powered prototypes as well as battery-based projects. The 21 mm × 51 mm board includes castellated pads and through-hole pin positions for soldering headers or surface mounting onto a carrier PCB. Typical applications include sensor nodes, data loggers, robotics controllers, LED matrix drivers, automation projects, keyboard and HID devices, educational coding labs and rapid hardware prototyping.
