Project Details

The ESP32-CAM Face Detection project uses the ESP32's built-in processing power and optimized AI libraries to detect human faces in real time. Unlike traditional systems that rely on cloud processing, this project performs on-device face detection, making it faster, more private, and usable without internet access. The ESP32-CAM streams live video, runs a face detection algorithm, and draws bounding boxes around detected faces. This project is widely used in smart surveillance, attendance systems, smart door locks, human detection robots, and edge AI applications.

How It Works

The ESP32-CAM streams live video from its camera. The ESP-WHO face detection firmware processes each frame using optimized AI libraries to detect human faces. When a face is detected, bounding boxes are drawn around it. The processed video stream is then sent to a web browser via Wi-Fi, allowing real-time viewing of face detection results. All processing happens on the device without cloud dependency.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of Arduino IDE and ESP32 programming. Understanding of Wi-Fi networking concepts. Familiarity with computer vision concepts is helpful but not required.
