Project Details

The ESP32-CAM Photo Capture and Save project demonstrates how to capture still images using the built-in OV2640 camera and store them on a microSD card. The ESP32-CAM can take photos automatically on boot, on button press, through a web browser, or on motion detection (expandable). Captured images are saved in JPEG format and can be accessed by removing the SD card or via Wi-Fi. This project is widely used in smart door cameras, time-lapse photography, attendance systems, IoT data logging, and wildlife monitoring.

How It Works

The ESP32-CAM module uses the OV2640 camera to capture images. The camera is initialized with specific configuration settings (pin mappings, pixel format, frame size). When triggered (automatically on boot, button press, or web request), the camera captures a frame in JPEG format. The image data is then written to a file on the microSD card using the SD_MMC library. The process involves camera initialization, image capture, file creation, and data writing.
