Project Details

This project uses ESP32 in combination with the PZEM-004T energy monitoring module to measure and log electrical parameters of AC loads: Voltage (V), Current (A), Active Power (W), Energy Consumption (kWh), and Frequency (Hz). The ESP32 reads data via serial communication (UART) from the PZEM module and can display readings on a web page or LCD, send data to cloud platforms (ThingSpeak, Firebase, or MQTT), and alert users on overcurrent or overvoltage situations. Applications include home energy monitoring, industrial load tracking, IoT power meters, and smart energy management systems.

How It Works

The ESP32 communicates with the PZEM-004T module via UART (Serial2). The PZEM module measures AC voltage, current, power, and energy from the connected load. The ESP32 reads these values and can display them locally on an LCD/OLED, send them to a web server, or transmit them to cloud platforms like ThingSpeak or Firebase via Wi-Fi. The system can also trigger alerts if overcurrent or overvoltage conditions are detected.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of electronics, familiarity with Arduino IDE and C++ programming, understanding of AC power concepts, and experience with ESP32 or similar microcontrollers. Safety awareness when working with AC mains is essential.
