Project Details

The ESP32 Smart Mailbox Notifier detects when the mailbox is opened or when new mail arrives and instantly notifies the user via Wi-Fi using a mobile app, email, Telegram, or cloud dashboard. This project is ideal for homes, apartments, office mailrooms, smart society systems, and elderly assistance. It uses a reed switch to detect door opening, and the ESP32 sends alerts via Wi-Fi. The system features instant mail detection, low power consumption, wireless alerts, easy installation, and an expandable design. Advanced upgrades include camera snapshots, solar power, multiple mailbox monitoring, MQTT/Home Assistant integration, and theft detection alerts.

How It Works

The reed switch is placed on the mailbox door. When the door opens, the magnetic field changes and the switch changes state. ESP32 detects this change via GPIO pin 27 (configured with internal pull-up resistor). When a LOW signal is detected, ESP32 triggers a notification via Wi-Fi. The ESP32 connects to your Wi-Fi network and sends alerts through services like IFTTT, Blynk, or Telegram Bot. For power efficiency, the ESP32 can use deep sleep mode and wake up only when the GPIO interrupt occurs, allowing the battery to last for months.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of ESP32 programming, understanding of GPIO pins and digital inputs, familiarity with Wi-Fi connectivity, and experience with Arduino IDE. Users should also know how to set up notification services like IFTTT or Telegram.
