Project Details

This project demonstrates how to use the ESP32's built-in capacitive touch pins to detect human touch. Unlike traditional push buttons, touch sensors work without moving parts, making them ideal for modern smart devices, wearables, and sealed enclosures. By touching a specific ESP32 touch pin, you can toggle an LED ON or OFF. This technology is widely used in smart switches, touch panels, home automation, and consumer electronics.

How It Works

The ESP32 uses its built-in capacitive touch sensing hardware to detect changes in capacitance when a human finger approaches or touches the touch pin. The touchRead() function measures the capacitance value, which decreases when touched. When the measured value drops below a set threshold, the code toggles the LED state. A debounce delay prevents multiple triggers from a single touch. The system requires no external touch sensors, as the ESP32's internal touch pins provide this functionality natively.
