Project Details

The ESP32 Web Radio Streaming project connects the ESP32 to Wi-Fi and streams live radio stations from the internet. The audio stream is decoded and sent to a DAC or amplifier using the ESP32's I2S interface. This project demonstrates real-time audio streaming, MP3/AAC decoding, Wi-Fi bandwidth handling, and embedded audio systems. It can be used in smart speakers, internet radios, DIY audio players, and smart home audio nodes.

How It Works

The ESP32 connects to a Wi-Fi network and opens an HTTP audio stream from an internet radio station. The audio data (typically MP3 or AAC format) is decoded by the ESP32 Audio library. The decoded audio is then sent via the I2S interface to the MAX98357A DAC/amplifier, which converts the digital signal to analog and amplifies it. The amplified signal drives the speaker to produce live radio audio. Optional push buttons can control play/pause, station selection, and volume.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of ESP32 programming, familiarity with Arduino IDE, understanding of Wi-Fi connectivity, and basic electronics concepts. Experience with audio systems is helpful but not required.
