Project Details

The LDR Based Automatic Street Light is a simple and cost-effective project that automatically controls street lights based on ambient light conditions. An LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) changes its resistance according to light intensity. Arduino reads this value and turns the street light ON during night and OFF during daytime without any human intervention. This project is widely used in smart cities, street lighting systems, highway lighting, and energy-saving automation. It introduces beginners to analog sensors, decision logic, and real-world automation.

How It Works

The project uses an LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) connected in a voltage divider circuit with a 10kΩ resistor. The Arduino reads the analog voltage at the junction (pin A0). When ambient light is low (night), LDR resistance is high, resulting in higher voltage at A0. When light is high (day), LDR resistance is low, resulting in lower voltage. The Arduino code compares this value to a threshold (400). If below threshold (night), it turns ON the LED via digital pin D8. If above threshold (day), it turns OFF the LED. This creates an automatic street light system that responds to natural light conditions.

Basic understanding of Arduino programming and electronics. Familiarity with digital and analog pins, basic circuit connections, and the Arduino IDE. No advanced electronics knowledge required.
