Project Details

The Obstacle Avoiding Robot is a beginner-level robotics project where a robot moves autonomously and avoids obstacles in its path. An ultrasonic sensor continuously measures the distance between the robot and nearby objects. When an obstacle is detected within a set distance, Arduino commands the motors to stop, turn, and choose a new direction. This project helps beginners understand distance measurement using ultrasonic sensors, autonomous decision-making, motor control with Arduino, and real-world robotics applications. This robot forms the foundation for advanced autonomous systems and smart robots.

How It Works

The robot uses an ultrasonic sensor (HC-SR04) to continuously measure distance to obstacles. The sensor sends a trigger pulse and measures the echo time to calculate distance. Arduino processes this data in real-time. When an obstacle is detected within 20cm, the Arduino stops the robot, delays briefly, then commands the motor driver to turn the robot right. If no obstacle is detected, the robot moves forward. This creates an autonomous navigation system that avoids collisions.

Prerequisites

Basic understanding of Arduino programming, familiarity with digital I/O pins, and knowledge of how to upload code to Arduino boards. No prior robotics experience required.
