Project Details

The Rain Sensor Alarm System is an embedded environmental monitoring project designed to detect the presence of rainwater using a resistive rain sensor module. The system is commonly used in weather stations, automatic window-closing systems, vehicle rain alerts, and agricultural monitoring. The rain sensor board contains conductive tracks. When raindrops fall onto the board, the resistance between tracks decreases, causing a change in voltage output. The control module converts this change into a digital or analog signal readable by Arduino. Upon detecting rain, the microcontroller triggers outputs such as a buzzer or LED alert. This demonstrates principles of water conductivity detection, signal thresholding, and event-driven alerts.

How It Works

The rain sensor module contains conductive tracks that form a variable resistor. When water droplets fall on the sensor, they bridge the tracks, reducing the electrical resistance. This resistance change causes a voltage change at the sensor output. The Arduino reads this signal (either as analog voltage or digital HIGH/LOW based on a threshold). When rain is detected (low resistance/high voltage), the Arduino activates the buzzer and LED through digital output pins, creating an audible and visual alarm.
