Project Details

The RFID-Based Attendance System is an embedded identification project that replaces manual attendance registers with an electronic system. It uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to uniquely identify users via RFID cards or tags. Each RFID tag contains a factory-programmed unique identifier (UID). When a user brings the card near the RFID reader module (RC522), electromagnetic coupling enables wireless data exchange. The Arduino reads the UID using the SPI communication protocol. The system compares the scanned UID with stored records in memory. If the UID matches an authorized ID, attendance is marked and feedback is given via LCD display or buzzer. The data can be logged to Serial monitor, SD card storage, PC software, or Cloud server (advanced version).

How It Works

The system works through RFID communication. The RC522 reader emits a 13.56 MHz RF field. When an RFID tag enters this field, it powers up wirelessly and transmits its unique UID. The RC522 module receives this UID via SPI communication protocol and sends it to the Arduino. The Arduino compares the received UID with a stored database of authorized IDs. If a match is found, attendance is marked and feedback is provided via LCD display or buzzer. If no match is found, access is denied. The data can be logged to various storage options including serial monitor, SD card, or cloud servers.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of Arduino programming, understanding of digital electronics, familiarity with SPI communication protocol, and experience with connecting components on a breadboard.
