About Micro USB Cable for Programming
The Micro USB Cable for Programming is an essential workbench cable for anyone working with microcontroller boards and USB-powered electronics. It connects a standard USB Type-A host port on a computer, laptop, USB hub or charger to devices that use a Micro-USB B connector. Unlike charge-only leads, a programming/data cable includes the USB data lines required for sketch upload, firmware flashing, serial communication and device synchronization on compatible hardware.
This cable follows the USB 2.0 connection format with 5V VBUS power, ground and D+/D- data lines. When used with boards such as ESP32/ESP8266 development boards, Raspberry Pi Pico, Arduino Pro Micro-style boards, STM32 boards, phone repair tools and other Micro-USB modules, it can provide power from the host and create a USB communication link through the onboard USB-to-serial or native USB interface of the target device. Actual upload speed and charging current depend on the connected board, USB port and device electronics.
For electronics students and hobbyists, this Micro USB programming cable is useful for uploading code from Arduino IDE, PlatformIO, Thonny, MicroPython tools and vendor firmware utilities, provided the target board supports Micro-USB programming. It is also suitable for powering small 5V modules, testing USB sockets, connecting legacy Android devices, using USB OTG accessories through compatible adapters and general lab troubleshooting.
Typical pin notes for Micro-USB include VBUS 5V, D-, D+, ID and GND; the ID pin is normally used for OTG role detection and is not required for standard PC-to-device programming. Package includes 1 x USB Type-A male to Micro-USB male data/programming cable. Cable colour and exact outer finish may vary by batch.
